Produced in the stately wine area surrounding the picturesque town of Montalcino, today there are some 200 boutique wineries creating one of Italy’s most important reds.
Brunello di Montacino is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, whose roots go back at least to the 1500s, with many arguing that its ancestors date back right through to Roman times. Its name derives from ‘bruno’ (meaning brown in Italian) in reference to its orange-tinged hue that fades with aging.
Brunello di Montalcino pairs perfectly with the local cuisine, particularly the richer traditional flavors of Tuscany such as Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine steak) or Cinghiale (wild boar) dishes.
Perched above a hill at an elevation of 1850 feet above sea level, Montalcino is framed by the most stunning panorama. Its ancient medieval walls encase a fortress dating back to 1361, an ancient basilica, 13th century churches and convents, and museums housing collections featuring a full gamut of artworks spanning from historic to modern times.
So that this tour may be tailored to individual preferences, all food and wine tastings are additional, to be paid by guests directly on the day. This ensures our guests may experience the best of the area exactly as they wish. Tasting costs range from approximately € 35-50 (approximately $ USD 40-55) per person, depending on location and tasting options.
